What does Oak Island, Chateau Rochefoucauld and Jackie Kennedy have in common?
They are tied through an artifact – A photo… A moment captured in time when Jackie was a radiant beautiful young woman, with a life of promise, laced with tragedy, yet before her…
During my investigation into the mysterious Rochefoucauld name written across the top of Zena Halpern’s map of Oak Island, I traveled through France to Château de La Rochefoucauld, Talmont-Saint-Hilaire, and investigated Talmont-sur-Gironde’s history.
The Rochefoucauld name sits in primary position on the top right of the map and the ‘Talmont Code’ occupies the lower right…
I uncovered historical connections between these locations that would later be published in my November 2022 book, please see below…
Among the artifacts I came across at the castle one stood out in my mind: this remarkable photograph of a young Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in the company of the distinguished Rochefoucauld family at their ancestral château. I found it haunting, especially as it was presented in black and white, leaving us to ponder the absent nuances of color.
As a young woman, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis moved comfortably within the great cultural circles of Europe and America, admired for her intelligence, grace, and deep appreciation of history, art, and architecture. Long before becoming First Lady and her nearly 20 years as an acclaimed book editor, she was already known for her elegance, sharp wit.
“Bouvier” was her maiden name, inherited from her father, stockbroker John Vernou Bouvier III, whose family possessed French ancestry and longstanding ties to French culture.

The visit by the team to Château de La Rochefoucauld appeared in The Curse of Oak Island Season 5, Episode 9, titled “The French Connection,” which originally aired in the United States on January 9, 2018. Doug Crowell discovered the links between the map and the Rochefoucaulds – They met with Sonia Mattosian at the château and explored possible historical links between the Rochefoucauld family, the Knights Templar, and Oak Island.
Naturally, as a boots on the ground researcher, I felt compelled to follow the trail myself, and in doing so made further discoveries connecting Oak Island, Royston Cave, and the mysterious family whose name appears upon the map itself.
My own primary research up to 2022 was published in the following book and also appeared on Season 10 première:
Oak Island’s Mysteries of the Map, House of Rochefoucauld: the Templar Statue and Royston Cave
