The Cistercians and the Templars or The Pen and The Sword:
In recent episodes of the Curse of Oak Island, season 11, we were introduced to a group that I know very well, the Cistercians and their leader, Bernard of Clairvaux. Templars are Cistercians with swords!
Both orders shared the same Rule book – Bernard was only 16 when he led 30 of his male relatives into the failing last two houses of the Cistercians. He sent the first Grand Master of the Templars to Jerusalem with nine knights to excavate under Temple Mount in 1111 CE with the permission of the King of Jerusalem.
Though Hugues de Payens fought in the First Crusade of 1095 CE, the Templars were not yet formed. The Templars, as a formal order, fought in 1147 CE the Second Crusade. They had a long-standing alliance with the Venetians whose ships were available to the Templars until the last stand of Acre in Jerusalem when Europeans were forced to leave the city.
Richard Lionheart spent most of his years in the Middle East in battle. He owned Talmont Castle on the French coast and is potentially the Young Cub or Lion on the lower right-hand corner of Zena Halpern’s map. The other potential for the ‘young lion’ is Lord Louis Thouars of Talmont Castle (1310 – 7 April 1370). Not to be confused with the family further north who took over the castle 200 years later.

Talmont Castle had its own harbor arm and was said to be impregnable, both the Lionheart and Lord Thoaurs could have launched missions to Oak Island from S.W. French coastline.
The stone wharf on Oak Island dates to 1200 CE, what heavy goods would have been brought to the island at this date and in 1250 CE according to the archaeoastronomer seen in S11?
Bernard de Clairvaux stated that Paris was the New Jerusalem. Why? Because the nine Templar Knights dug under Temple Mount from 1111 to 1120 before returning to Paris with sacred relics and texts.
Could they have had the Ark or the Menorah? Is this why the Templars were hailed as heroes on their return to Paris and granted space to build a castle for their international HQ ?
